Hveding Auto Museum

Hveding auto

The knowledge of the early years of motoring history in Norway is not well known especially not among the younger generations. They take the car for granted and look at our modern society as a direct consequence of the car. it is often forgotten that the first cars led to conflicts where the horses were frightened by the cars and the Norwegian countryside was faced with a cultural challenge.

The garage business started as early as 1915 and is representative of the infancy of the automobile where car dealership and garage were integrated parts of the housing area of the town. There are just a few garages like this left in Norway. The building is a perfect frame for a presentation of the early years of motoring history outside Oslo.

The garage building is authentic and restored to give experiences connected to transportation with a special focus on the change of Levanger from a "horse city" where the market was central into a more modern city imprinted by the car and use of cars.

The museum also shows its collections of photos and tools including cultural history linked to an important time of change and development in the history of the city of Levanger. The establishment of such a museum is of great local and regional interest.
